This recipe went over so well with the family, I had to make it twice in the same week! It is great all by itself or topped with cool whip. It also tastes amazing as a topping on vanilla ice cream and it would be fantastic as a pie-filling as an alternative to apple.
We think Nanna's Pears taste best warm. They keep well in the fridge for a few days and you can just re-heat them in the microwave when you're ready to finish them up.
Side note: We had liquid leftover in the pan after the pears were finished cooking, so we threw in some sliced apples as well. The apples take a little longer to cook, but were also fantastic and used up that extra liquid, so you could definitely plan to grab a few extra pears or some apples in addition to the amount called for in the recipe, if you don't want to waste the juice.
Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs. pears, cored and sliced (I peeled the slices as well, but I guess you don't have to)
- 1 cup plus 2 Tbsp. Apple Juice
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. unsalted butter
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 pinch of salt
Directions:
- In a large skillet, bring juice and pears to a boil.
- Reduce heat and stir in remaining ingredients. Cook about 10 minutes, until pears begin to soften.
- Serve alone, or with whipped topping, or over a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
